Kickstarter Preview: In the Kitchen with Chef Mac

“Hello, everyone and welcome to In the Kitchen with Chef Mac. I’m your host, Chef Mac. Don’t worry about the fancy chef part. You can still call me Mac. Some of you may remember me when I did a guest spot last month and since then they’ve given me my own show! I’m super excited to be here so that we can make another delicious recipe together.

“Today we’re going to make a yummy breakfast treat. Blueberry pancake smoothies! Remember, kids, have your parents or someone there to help with anything that you need. Kitchen accidents are no joke.

“Now, the first thing we’re going to do is get all of our ingredients together. Did you know that there’s a special phrase for that? My good friend, Chef Tony, recently taught me about it. The phrase is mise en place. It’s French and means “gathering!” So, we’re going to gather all of our ingredients and put them wherever you’re cooking. For me, that’s on my counter. For you that may be a table or a counter or somewhere else. Let’s start now! I’m going to show you everything that you’ll need and then you can get all of them and lay them out on your kitchen counter. Don’t forget that you need a blender and two cups for this recipe. Ready? Let’s go.

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 medium banana

½ cup frozen unsweetened blueberries

¼ cup instant plain oatmeal

1 teaspoon maple syrup

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

“Do you know what the best part of this recipe is? There’s no cutting or chopping involved. Now that you have your ingredients, make sure that you have everything measured out. Then, peel your banana. This recipe does not call for banana peel, so go ahead and throw it away. If your family has a compost bin, banana peels are perfect to throw into that! Then, make sure that your blender is turned off and plugged in. Once those things are done, take off the top of your blender and add in all of the ingredients. That’s right, all of them! Just dump them right in. Carefully put the lid back onto your blender. If it’s too high for you, have a parent or older sibling help you out. Now comes the fun part! You’re going to press the blend button and watch it spin around until it’s totally smooth. Once it’s nice and smooth, if you can, carefully remove container from the blender, take off the lid and pour it into two different cups. That’s right! This will serve two people! I think I’m going to share mine with my best friend, Zeus. Let me know who you share yours with by commenting on our recipe page! I can’t wait to hear from all of you. Make sure that you have your parents’ permission to post.

“And that’s it for today. If you’d like to change up your smoothies, try different types of frozen fruit. Strawberries are also really good. I think next time I’m going to try mango and pineapple! Make sure you tune in next episode when we’ll be making raspberry ice cream in a bag with the help of our friend Chef Adora! I can’t wait for all of you to meet her.”
