This dystopian martial arts epic tells the tale of an old warrior returning from exile with his daughter to settle the score with the vicious tyrant that destroyed their lives and controls their city with an iron fist.
I have a confession to make. This is not my first review of this series. It just happens that the editor is a friend of mine and when he heard I was reading it, he wanted to know what I thought. Then, he told me that my “review” was very editor like. Well, yeah, I’m an editor. It’s what I do. Let’s see though what all of you think.
First of all, shout out to said editor. He did an excellent job with his commas. Seriously though, I don’t know what working with Onrie is like, but I know Chuck knows his stuff. Whatever guidance he gave must have been good because this book is good. How is it good you ask?
The art. The art is stellar and completely fits the story. Before this book I wasn’t familiar with Dexter’s style, but the creator could not have found someone better to match style to story. It’s stellar. As for the story itself? More twists and turns than Wicked Twister at Cedar Point. I love a story that I can’t predict and this series is full of that. It’s the kind of book that you pause mid-page, turn to your best friend (who should also be reading it) and go omg, did you read what I just read?
We all know it comes down to the bottom line though, right? Would I recommend it to a friend? An enemy? The mailman? Yes. No, because they don’t deserve cool things. Absolutely! The ultimate question…Would I gift it to my pizza guy who is just getting into comics if I had a spare copy? (Yes, I have done this before.) Faster than you can imagine. I may need to keep a spare copy by my front door.
So, where do you find this comics diamond? Head over to Onrie’s website or, if you hurry, you can catch this on Kickstarter!
Until next week…Happy Reading!
