Book Review Friday: Sven the Groundhog #1

Sven is a groundhog, he’s from space and he’s here to save us, or at least that’s what the title implies. But when Sven’s first encounter with humans is the not-so-sober Sarah…and her car, things don’t really go as planned. And what comes next you will need to read to believe!

Once upon a time, I ran a website where our main focus was to write comic reviews. Early on, I met this great guy named Dave. He worked for a company that I did reviews for. Fast forward more than a few years and now we’re both writing our own works and he’s started his own publishing house. It’s crazy how far we’ve both come. That being said, when Sven the Groundhog was announced as their first release, I jumped at the chance to back the Kickstarter and to read it.

I have no regrets. Let’s start with the quality of this book. Beautiful heavy cover and solid pages. I know that these kinds of things don’t matter to everyone, but as someone whose comics can get a bit manhandled, it’s good to see that this one is going to hold up to some serious reading. With this oversized issue comes engaging art and a story that I just couldn’t get enough of. Honestly, it’s been a while since I finished a comic and immediately regretted it because now comes to the painful waiting for issue #2.

So while this little review isn’t in my normal the good, the bad, the summary format, I can honestly say that you need to go to Weird Brain Entertainment and beg them to sell you a copy of Sven. Then, after you read it, bug the heck out of Dave to get issue #2 out there because I need to know what happens next!
