Ethereal’s new ongoing Fantasy series, Fallen Leaves, is here.

Every so often, I still agree to do a comic review. Sometimes I even volunteer which was the case when Ethereal Comics was looking for someone to review a few of their titles. They sent me 3 different titles and welcome to the first review! Let’s see if I remember how to do this.

The Good:
The colors in this book grabbed me from page 1 panel 1. Honestly, I found them to be stunning. The art was right there at that same level. I never once questioned what I was seeing. Now, we all know that art cannot carry a comic on its own. There has to be a good story. Dustin doesn’t disappoint in this at all. The issue opens up right into action and it doesn’t let up. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but if you love fantasy, elves, dragons, and issues that will leave you longing for more, this is for you.

The Bad:
I noticed that there wasn’t an editor or proofreader listed on this issue. I don’t know if they didn’t have one or just didn’t list them. The only reason I bring that up is that this issue needed someone to proofread it before it went to print. Now, these are things that, as an editor, only I may have picked up so take that into consideration. There were some comma errors and at one spot the character’s name change spellings.
The other thing, and this isn’t necessarily bad, but there were nude pinups used as a break between the two sections of the story. I don’t object to the art, just that it was a bit jarring to “turn the page” and see that. After all, the previous page was a young girl…then hello!

The Summary:
Honestly, I really want to see what other issues there are of this comic. I’d love to know what happens next and that’s one of the best compliments that I can give any comic. If it leaves me wanting more, they’ve done something very right.
